Sweet blooms

One of my new crinums is blooming! I wish I could somehow capture the wonderful fragrance so that the photo could be scratch and sniff. It reminds me a bit of a cross between and orange blossom and jasmine. Absolutely wonderful.

Hello Kim -
I just found your blog. What a joy! I'm a neighbor just a bit south of you (Ocala) and I'm a big fan of tropicals. I discovered crinums this year and just fell in love. Yours is beautiful. Do you know what variety it is? Mine bloomed in the summer, so the thought of finding a variety that blooms now is very exciting. I'd appreciate any info you can share.

wicked gardener-- thanks for posting a comment! As you discovered in one of my older posts, I think the crinum is Crinum procerum 'Splendens', but that's just my best guess.

As for the bloom time, mine might be a bit off schedule since it's still in its pot. However, I have heard that they tend to rebloom throughout the warmer months. You could try deadheading yours after the flowers start to fade. Sometimes if you prevent plants from putting energy into making seeds, it helps encourage them to rebloom.
